Starting to reconstruct synapses

As a part of our Pristionchus connectome project, I’ve started annotating the massive amount of TEM data we’ve generated. The image you see is a partial 3D reconstruction of several neurons in the pharynx of the worm, as well as a whole bunch of synapses (blue). The good news is that we are already seeing some very interesting differences between the synaptic wiring of Caenorhabditis elegans and P. pacificus that probably relate to function. Starting to analyze these data is a big victory for me!
